Lloyd Morrisette, co-founder of the legendary Sesame Street for children, passed away at the age of 93.
Representatives of Sesame Workshop expressed their condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. Lloyd Morrisett co-founded Sesame Workshop and founded The Children's Television Workshop with his close friend Joan Ganz Cooney.
The show appeared in 1969 and became the most famous children's educational show in the world. It has been shown literally everywhere and probably everyone has watched at least one episode.
"Lloyd leaves an outsized and indelible legacy among generations of children the world over, with Sesame Street only the most visible tribute to a lifetime of good work and lasting impact," Sesame Workshop tweeted.
Lloyd Morrisett was the first to come up with and implement the idea of using television to teach preschoolers basic knowledge, writing and arithmetic. The original idea behind the show was to give children from disadvantaged families the same educational opportunities as children from middle-class families. It remains the same today – the educational project which is both playful and humorous.
